Gary Collier

Director

Gary has 25 years' experience in the stonemasonry industry, starting his Banker Mason Apprenticeship in 2000 and winning Silver in the 2005 World Skills Competition early on in his career. Gary now focuses his talents estimating for the company, and working with clients to deliver complex projects to the highest of standards.

James Beddow

Director

James’ passion for preserving our Nation’s heritage stretches back to 1998 when he first began his career as an apprentice Stonemason. Since then James has worked on some of our Country’s finest buildings, working his way through the ranks to run large scale projects. James’ vast experience in the field enables him to ensure that projects are delivered on time, on budget, and that the quality of craftsmanship is nothing more than first class.

Amy Whitehead

Office Manager / Historic Building Conservator

Amy trained as a Stonemason / Conservator at Weymouth college before spending a year training at York Minster. She went on to work for a few years in Canada on the Canadian Parliament Buildings, before returning home and joining the Mono Masonry Team as a Banker Mason in 2015. She recently completed a Masters Degree in Historic Building Conservation (with Distinction) as part of her continued professional development, and has developed her role within the company over the years, becoming our Office Manager in 2017.

Michael Holland

Site Manager / Stonemason

Michael has worked within the construction industry since 2004, gaining his NVQ Level 3 in Stonemasonry in 2011. Since then, Michael has gained a vast knowledge of working within the heritage sector, and now runs our jobs as one of our SMSTS Site Managers.

Gary Newton

Site Supervisor / Stonemason

Gary is one of our SSSTS trained supervisors, having worked in the stonemasonry industry himself for many years, he brings a wealth of experience to his supervisory role.

Chris Clarke

Site Supervisor / Stonemason

Chris first started his Stonemasonry Apprenticeship in 2007, but just a year later he achieved his dream of playing professional rugby, being signed by Oldham RLFC. He went on to play rugby professionally for 8 years with both Oldham RLFC and Oxford RLFC before returning to stonemasonry in 2017. During his time at York College, Chris won 'Most Improved Stonemasonry Apprentice' and then 'Apprentice of the Year', qualifying as an NVQ L3 banker mason in 2020. Over the years he has worked on some fantastic projects, including Liverpool and Manchester Cathedrals, Lancaster Castle, Grimsby Minster and Stamford Bridge. Although most notably for Chris, was the George Hotel in Huddersfield - home of Rugby League! Chris joined the Mono Masonry team in 2022 and is now one of our SSSTS trained Supervisors.

Jamie Newby

Workshop Manager / Stonemason

Jamie gained his NVQ Level 3 in Stonemasonry back in 2006, and has spent his career as a banker mason, gaining exceptional skills in architectural bankermasonry. Jamie joined the team in 2018 and became our Workshop Manager shortly after. Some of his favourite projects over his time at Mono Masonry so far include Lincoln Cathedral, Studley Castle, and Manchester Town Hall.

Matthew Blackburn

Stonemason

Matthew is a time served Stonemason who trained at York College. He has spent the majority of his 22 year career in the banker shop, although he also enjoys the variation of working on site. One of Matthew's favourite jobs during his 7 years working for Mono Masonry, has been the Albert Memorial in Albert Square, Manchester, because of the sheer amount of intricate carving on the project.

Owen Bates

Stonemason

Owen is a time served Stonemason who gained his NVQ L3 at York College. He has spent the majority of his 22 year career working on the banker, with around 10 of those years spent making intricate stone fireplaces. Owen joined the team at Mono Masonry in 2022, and one of his most recent notable projects has been the ongoing restoration works to St Michael Le Belfrey, where he has worked both on site in York, and in our workshop producing replacement stones.

Rob Allwood

Stonemason

Rob is a qualified stonemason with over 20 years experience in the trade. He has spent the majority of his career so far working in York, with a personal highlight being the opportunity to work on Westminster Abbey. Rob joined the team in 2023 as a banker mason and has fast become a valued member of our workshop team, tackling complex architectural mouldings and carvings alike.

Grzegorz Cyranka

Stonemason / Carver

Grzegorz learnt his craft in his native Poland, before working his way around Europe and finally settling in the North of England, after falling in love with it’s architecture. Not only is Grzegorz an experienced site and banker mason, but he is also one of our most experienced carvers.

Dane English

Stonemason

Dane has worked in the heritage industry for over 10 years, and joined the team at Mono Masonry in 2021.

Neil Bishop

Stonemason / Conservator

Neil is a time served stonemason and conservator, having gained an ACA in Banker Masonry back in 2009. Since then Neil gained an NVQ Level 2 in Banker Masonry with the Princes Foundation, and went on to reach Team Leader level with the Association Ouvrière des Compagnons in France. After his training in France, Neil travelled even further afield with his craft to Christchurch, New Zealand, where he worked for 2 years before eventually returning to the UK in 2016. Since then, Neil spent the next 7 years working in the south of England, during which time he gained a First in his Cathedral Works Fellowship Foundation Degree with Canterbury Cathedral. Neil moved to West Yorkshire in 2023 when he joined the team at Mono Masonry with his vast and varied knowledge of the trade.

Andrew Broadbent

Joiner / Fixer Mason

Andrew started his career in the construction industry in 2012 as an NVQ Level 3 Joiner, but then found a love for heritage work and stonemasonry, completing his NVQ in Heritage Skills in 2019. As one of our ThermaTech Cleaning trained site masons, First Aider, and trained Telescopic Handler operator, Andrew continues to be one of our most versatile team members.

Brandon Halliwell

Stonemason

Brandon is a qualified stonemason, who started his career and completed his Level 3 NVQ at York College through Mono Masonry. Brandon was awarded with the ‘Most Improved Apprentice’ of the year for 2018, and has worked hard to become a competent and important member of our team.

Garry Chadderton

Stonemason

With 25 years experience, having started his career alongside both James and Gary in 2000, Garry is a highly experienced Stonemason, competent both on site and on the banker. Stonemasonry runs in the family for Garry, with him being the third generation in the trade – and still using his Grandfather’s mallet!

Chris Collier

Fixer Mason

Chris is a Heritage Skills trained Fixer Mason with over 15 years experience working on masonry projects and heritage buildings.

Chris Hewitt

Fixer Mason

Chris began his career as a dry stone waller, and went on to become a proficient fixer mason. Chris has had a long career in the industry, working on prestigious projects such as Luton Hoo, Liverpool Cathedral and Manchester Cathedral before joining the team in 2020. Since then Chris has worked as part of the Mono Masonry team on projects such as St Michael Le Belfrey, Leeds Cathedral and Wentworth Woodhouse.

Grant Nisbett

Stonemason

Grant is a time served stonemason with an SVQ Level 3 in Banker and Fixer Masonry from Edinburgh College. He has 20 years experience in the field, and prior to joining Mono Masonry in 2024 he ran his own masonry company. His most notable projects include Edinburgh and Kilmarnock Castles.

Stephen Spence

Stonemason

NVQ Level 3 trained stonemason with 20 years experience. Stephen has spent many years working for himself, running a team of masons, and joined the team at Mono Masonry at the start of this year.

Thomas Marley

Stonemason

Tom completed his Level 2 in Banker Masonry in 2024, gaining a Distinction for his efforts! Since then he has gone on to further his skills on site, having travelled the country working on various exciting projects with our site masonry teams; his favourite project so far has been the Black Country Living Museum in Dudley. Tom is an enthusiastic and popular member of the team, and we look forward to seeing what lies ahead in his career with Mono Masonry!

Isaac Sterndale

Fixer Mason

Isaac has been training with us for the past 3 years as a Fixer Mason and has recently gained his NVQ in Heritage Skills.

Anthony Whitehead

Stonemason

Anthony completed his Level 2 in Banker Masonry in 2024, having also gained a place in the Skillbuild National Final the same year. He has been an exceptional apprentice for Mono Masonry, and his hard work has recently been recognised in the form of the Worshipful Company of Masons Master Craftsman Apprentice Award, which he was awarded in the spring of 2025. We are very excited to see what lies ahead for Anthony, as we watch him progress within the team!

Within our award winning team we have a wealth of knowledge relating to Conservation and Restoration, with NVQ L3 qualified Stonemasons, many of whom are either Heritage Skills NVQ trained or Cathedral trained in Stone Conservation to Masters Degree level.
