Biophilic design in a West Yorkshire School
Mono Masonry are proud to have been able to assist Harrogate Garden Design in the creation of the UK's first Biophilic SEN School. Using natural materials to support emotional wellbeing, focus and academic progress.
The Challenge
Once a disused youth centre, Lisa Norton's design set to transform this un-loved building to provide a safe, nurturing and innovative space for learners with special educational needs.
Biophilic design
Biophilic design aims to connect people more closely with nature in the built environment, by introducing nature into interior design. The aim: to improve wellbeing and creativity and to reduce stress.
Natural Stone
Lisa's beautiful designs included a curved stone wall in the school's reception area, supplied, and expertly installed by our team.
First of it's kind
The UK's first biophilic SEN school "fosters calm, focus, and engagement, creating a nurturing atmosphere that supports both emotional and cognitive development. This project exemplifies our commitment to enhancing well-being and learning through biophilic design, providing a supportive, sensory-rich setting where students can thrive."
